We usually reply within two working days. There's no account for us to look up, so it helps if you say which device you're on and what you were doing.

Getting your recordings off the device

Open the Files app and look under On My iPhone or On My iPad, then Waffle Iron. Everything's there as ordinary files you can copy, email or drop into another app. You can also use Save on a finished episode, which hands it straight to whatever you pick.

Which microphone is it using?

The built-in one, unless you've plugged in something better. AirPods, USB microphones and audio interfaces get picked up on their own, and an interface with more than one input has each microphone recorded separately. The Sound screen shows what it's listening to and what it's playing out of.

Something sounds wrong

If it echoes, the device can probably hear its own speaker. The Sound screen will say so and suggest headphones, which is usually the whole fix.

If it's too quiet or the levels jump about, open Sound and check "Tidy up my recordings" is on, along with "Keep the volume even" and "Make voices clearer". A hum or traffic in the background is what "Cut the background noise" is for, and "Cut the long pauses" takes out the gaps. You can still trim a part by hand afterwards.

Can I lose a recording?

Nothing in the app throws a recording away. Finishing a take closes it rather than deleting it, a paused take carries on where it left off, and anything you delete waits in Recently Deleted so you can put it back. Your recordings are in your device backups too.

Does it need the internet?

No. Recording, transcription, tidying and saving all happen on the device, so it works in flight mode and on a network that blocks everything.

Accessibility

Waffle Iron works with VoiceOver, Dynamic Type and Reduce Motion. If something's hard to reach or hard to read, please tell us. That's a bug worth fixing.

Privacy

Your recordings only leave your device if you want them to. Read the full policy.
